Personal injury lawyers are legal representatives of people who claim to have been hurt or injured by another individual or entity (private or governmental). The injury can be physical or psychological and is usually the result of a negligent or intentional act. The injury can also be the wrongful death of another person.
At Law Offices of Vastola & Associates., we are attorneys who focus entirely on tort law. Tort laws include remedies that can be obtained in civil court for those who have been injured. We are happy to talk to you about any type of case that you may have, and if we do not practice in the area you need we will be happy to make a word-of-mouth referral to a qualified attorney for you. By focusing on strictly personal injury and wrongful death law, we are better able to stay current on the law and provide the best possible outcome for our clients.
Our responsibilities as your lawyer include, but are not limited to, meeting with our clients to render sound legal advice and counseling, drafting and filing legal documents, and advocating for our clients in court, arbitration and mediation settings. One of our attorneys will always meet with our new clients to obtain the necessary information and allow the client to assess our abilities face-to-face. We will research any necessary issues and educate the client on the subtleties of their case. Our goal is to learn the client’s objectives and, assuming those objectives are in line with our ethical and moral guidelines, work as hard as we possibly can to obtain the client’s objectives.
We refuse to utilize unethical or immoral behavior to meet a client’s objective. While we are willing to use a more aggressive approach in those situations where it may be required, we have found that working with a spirit of cooperation often yields a better result for the client in a much shorter time frame. We comply strictly with the Florida Bar’s ethical mandates.
When handling a personal injury or wrongful death claim, we work on a contingency fee basis. Our compensation is “contingent” on us recovering money for the client. When that contingency is met and the funds are received, the attorney’s fee is based upon a simple mathematical computation (typically 33% to 40% of the gross recovery). Although it may appear as though some lawyers are offering you a unique deal by offering a “no fee if no recovery” marketing ploy, the fact is that every contingency fee lawyer must abide by that rule. The Florida Bar maintains an ethical rule to that effect.
